About Aston University

History of Aston University
In 1875, the University of Aston began as the School of Metallurgy, a Birmingham & Midland Institute division. The institution changed its name to the Birmingham Municipal Technical School later in 1895 and began teaching courses in electrical engineering, chemistry, physics, and metallurgy. The institution changed its name to Birmingham Central Technical College in 1927 and began offering classes in commerce and other topics, including botany.
