London South Bank University was founded in 1892 and officially gained full university status in 1992. Practical education and employability are given a strong focus at the University, with its central London location providing close links to business and industry. London South Bank is one of the largest universities in London with over 15,000 students enrolled, 2,000 of which are international from 130 countries. General undergraduate admission requirements:
- You must have five GCSE passes at grade C or above – including English and Maths – to study any of our courses. We’ll also accept Functional Skills Level 2 Maths and English in place of GCSEs. If you completed your English and Maths GCSE under the new grading system, you’ll need a grade 4 or higher.

- Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing Service): 6.0 (with no component below 5.5)
- TOEFL iBT: Overall score: 80, Reading: 18, Listening: 17, Writing: 17, Speaking: 20
- Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): Overall score: 52 (minimum score required in each skill area is 51)
- Cambridge English (First, Advanced, Proficiency): Overall score: 169 (with no score below 162)
- LanguageCert SELT or International ESOL (IESOL) Exam (B2 Communicator, C1 Expert, C2 Mastery): High Pass, Minimum score required in each skill area is 33*, (*For C2 Mastery, min score for Listening is 25)
- Trinity ISE: Pass ISE II with ‘Distinction’ in all 4 components
- GCSE / O-Level / IGCSE English Language (Edexcel/ Cambridge Overseas exam boards): Grade C
- A Level / AS Level English Language: Grade C

General postgraduate admission requirements:
- You need either a first degree (usually at least a 2:2) or a minimum of three years' post-qualification experience in a relevant field to take a postgraduate degree at LSBU.
- It's essential postgraduate candidates have high standards in maths or numeracy, communication and IT and can demonstrate a good knowledge and interest in the subject area they're applying for.

General Research degree admission requirements:
- To register for a PhD you'll normally need a first or second class Honours degree from a recognised university. Our typical applicant will have a relevant Masters with Merit or Distinction.
- Holders of other qualifications will be considered on merit and we take into account the nature and scope of the proposed programme. We also recognise professional experience, publications, reports and other evidence of accomplishment as well as an ability and background knowledge appropriate to the proposed research.
- Candidates need a good standard of English language skills to complete their work and prepare and defend a thesis. As a research student your application needs to be accepted by one of our seven Schools and this is only done once an appropriate supervisory team has been identified.

General Taught courses admission requirements:
- Normal entry qualifications for Postgraduate Diploma and Masters courses is an Honours degree or equivalent. For some Postgraduate Diplomas alternative qualifications are accepted along with relevant work experience. The University considers each application on its merits and is prepared to admit candidates who demonstrate they have reached our standard entry requirements on the basis of prior experiential learning.
