- 1928: The College became King Alfred's College.
- 2003: The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) established that the College's standards and quality were fully commensurate with the university sector as a whole.

Our values:
As a university, we have always been – and will always be – led and driven by our values.
As the world around us changes, we have accepted the challenge to change with it and move forward with confidence. Our reimagined values reflect our past and speak to our future.
Teaching excellence framework (TEF):
In 2017 the University of Winchester was granted a Silver award in the Teaching Excellence Framework. This result reflects the high quality of our teaching and the tireless commitment and hard work of all staff to teaching excellence.
The results are based on a range of metrics supplemented by a written submission which demonstrate that students from all backgrounds achieve excellent outcomes at Winchester. Our metrics also highlight very high levels of student satisfaction with academic support.
Learning and teaching development:
The Learning and Teaching Development team work closely with colleagues across the University to implement the Learning and Teaching Strategy. The L&T Strategy sets out the University's vision to enhance curriculum and pedagogy, to engage students in actively shaping their learning, and to foster a passion for excellence in learning and teaching among staff.
The L&T Strategy sets out a vision of excellence in Learning and Teaching, concerned with curriculum, pedagogy, student engagement and the continuing professional development of staff. The Strategy sets out aspirations for learning and teaching in line with the University Values in three principal domains: Imagination, Expanding Horizons, and Wider World. The purpose of the strategy is to guide all L&T activity towards systematic enhancement by setting shared goals for deliberate enhancements.
